POPZ-CULTURE Movie Reviews – Inside out 2 (2024)

Genre: Animation, adventure, comedy

Age limit: 6

Directed by:Kelsey Mann

Written by:Meg LeFauve, Dave Holstein, Kelsey Mann

Starring (voice):Amy Poehler, Maya Hawke, Kensington Tallman

Puberty is a time of conflict and challenge. Both physical and emotional changes accompany growing up. „Who am I?” becomes a central question, and finding oneself is fraught with difficulties. We were curious to see how Pixar Animation Studios, which provides quality entertainment for young and old alike, would tackle this very complex topic.

Inside out 2 is a solid sequel. From the first episode, it was clear that Riley’s entry into adolescence would be another exciting chapter. But we didn’t expect to see such an outstanding film.

Riley recently turned 13. High school is on the way. She and her friends are going to hockey camp, where she’ll have the opportunity to become the new member in the team of her future school. As she contemplates her new goal, the „puberty alarm” goes off, and new feelings arise in her mind, turning her inner world upside down.

It is worth starting the long list of positives with these new emotions. They are brilliantly crafted, and their whole look authentically portrays the turmoil of adolescence. The most memorable of them all is the character of Anxiety, who is central to the message of the film, in addition to moving the plot forward. As well as meeting new characters, we visit many new locations in the Headquarters and beyond with a classic adventure film approach.

The story itself doesn’t have any twists and turns, but that’s why it’s so good. There is a much greater emphasis on the everyday situations that most of us are familiar with, situations that we have all most likely experienced. Perhaps most of us have preferred not to admit to liking a film or a song for fear of being seen as a boor in the company we wanted to belong to. It is scenes like this that make this movie a truly personal experience.

There are few things we can say as negatives. What was a little lacking, however, was the presentation of the relationship with the parents, which also presents many difficulties at this age. The plot leaves little room for this, focusing more on school relationships. As for the music, we would have liked to have heard some catchy tunes like in Toy Story or The Incredibles.

What did Inside out 2 offer us? A great humorous, educational, literally emotional journey. Light-hearted and serious moments are interspersed with a great sense of rhythm. At just over 90 minutes, it’s a meaningful animated film that conveys valuable ideas. One of this year’s best. The target audience is over 12-13 years-old viewers, but we think younger cinema-goers will also enjoy the well-written setting and characters.

POPZ-CULTURE Movie Reviews – Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes (2024)

Genre: Action, adventure, sci-fi

Age limit: 16

Directed by:Wes Ball

Written by:Josh Friedman, Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver

Starring:Owen Teague, Eka Darville, Travis Jefferey

Hail Caesar!

There is nothing new under the sun. This year, alongside The Dune, another cinematic realization of a sci-fi classic from the 1960s returns to the big screen. What’s even stranger is the trend towards films and series with post-apocalyptic visions of the future. The Fallout series is currently a huge hit, as was last year’s video game adaptation The Last of Us. The new Mad Max movie has recently been released. The Planet of the Apes also does not offer an optimistic vision for the fate of humanity.

Although for us, the novel by Pierre Boulle and the film starring Charlton Heston are the benchmark, the 2010s had an excellent prequel trilogy. And now here is the sequel: Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes that sets the story in a „post-human” apocalyptic world.

The view of the Earth has completely changed. There is almost no evidence that mankind once ruled the planet. Nature has reconquered the surface. Generations have passed since Caesar led his folk out from under human oppression. Among those who keep his memory, his person is a saintly honor and reverence. A new group emerges, twisting the doctrines of the former spiritual leader and using them for its own ends of power, and begins a violent expansion by subjugating smaller clans. When the village of Noa (Owen Teague) is attacked, he goes in search of his kidnapped companions.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is a start of a new era. Although the story is built on familiar elements, it maintains interest throughout and follows logically from the events that have preceded it. This should not, of course, put off anyone who has not seen the previous films, as apart from a few brief references, they can expect a standalone story that makes sense on its own. It was a brave decision to set the plot much later than in previous films. The new characters are easily captivating, taking us on an exciting journey full of danger. The ruins of the world left behind by humans and the natural imagery makes an eerie mixture.

It might not be a fair comparison to use Avatar 2 as an example, since it’s been 1.5 years since then, but the new Planet of the Apes is a serious challenger to Cameron’s work in terms of visuals and special effects. The look and movement of the apes makes us forget we’re watching animated characters. The main villain’s personality and motivations fit the story perfectly, and he appears on the scene with the best timing. The music adds a lot to the atmosphere. The ominous, suspenseful melodies of Jerry Goldsmith have been successfully evoked. Go to the cinema, because for this film it’s absolutely worth it.

POPZ-CULTURE Movie Reviews – Dune : Part Two (2024)

Genre: Sci-fi, action, adventure, drama

Age limit: 16

Directed by: Denis Villeneuve

Written by: Denis Villeneuve, Jon Spaihts (from Frank Herbert’s novel)

Starring: Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Florence Pugh, Christopher Walken, Austin Butler, Javier Bardem

Dune part two is one of the most anticipated films of the year. The first part caught our attention in 2021 and set a promising foundation for the sequel. They left off telling the story at a point that guaranteed we’d want to see the rest. The director, Denis Villeneuve, the cleverly chosen cast and the visuals should entice even those who are not particularly fan of science fiction.

We won’t tell you too much about the story. The plot is about Prince Atreides joining the Fremen and becoming the messiah of the Dune. What is more interesting about this is that it centres mainly around the Emperor. Besides the overwhelming action sequences, the film also gives a detailed picture of the various background machinations and intrigues, as well as the political power relations of Arrakis.

The acting again brings the high quality of the first part. Christopher Walken was an excellent choice as the Emperor, but Javier Bardem as Stilgar and Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan were also memorable. But those who dazzled us neck and neck were Timothée Chalamet and Austin Butler, who has been growing in popularity since the Elvis film. Chalamet showed even more of the Paul Atreides who, although on the first look he gives the impression of a fragile, easily vulnerable young man, but in critical situations every word, every look of him exudes strength, dedication and commands respect. And as Freyd-Rauth, Butler is a formidable challenger to the Duke, crushing anyone and everyone for the sole rule of the House Harkonnen.

For us, there was a sense of incompleteness as the credits showed. The main reason for this is that the makers didn’t really carry on the spiritual line taken in the first part. A much more practical, plot-driven approach is evident in the sequel. Ultimately, it is also very much felt that further sequels are needed, as there is much more backstory to be learned, unresolved conflict and messages to be taken away from Arrakis and beyond.

Do we recommend Dune: Part Two? Absolutely. The bigger the cinema and screen the better. Only two months have passed this year, and it’s already one of the most memorable experiences of 2024 for us.

BRC CERTIFICATE – POPZ IS AMONG THE BEST IN 2017

Popz’s attention to quality production has resulted in Popz being awarded the highest BRC Global Standard-Food (issues 5) certification in January 2006. Popz’s first attempt to gain BRC recognition resulted in our rating being a grade ‘A’ which is their best grade and is rarely awarded on a first attempt.

In 2017, Popz raised the bar to a whole new level receiving an “AA” rating from BRC, which is rarely received by companies in the food sector. Our continuous developments are in line with Popz’s creed: „Quality is not an option but a necessary minimum”.

Popz launches new website

We are proud to announce the launch of our fresh, new website. The new site has been revamped both in content and design to showcase that our company is keeping up with the winds of new times.

We hope that you will like it as much as we do!

Popz production moves to hungary

It is with mixed emotions that we can inform you that POPZ® is moving our production of popcorn from Slagelse in Denmark to Debrecen in Hungary. The relocation is driven by the need to reduce POPZ® production costs, particularly labour.

We are sad on behalf of the approximately 30 employees who will lose their jobs in this move. Our thoughts are with them and their families. Our sales department and administration will not be affected by the closure of our Slagelse plant. We will continue to service all Danish customers and export markets from Denmark. All POPZ® customers will keep their normal contacts and be supported by the same sales team.

It is expected that production in Denmark will close by 30th September 2011.

From October, all our products will be manufactured at a newly built factory designed from the ground up to be the most efficient microwave popcorn plant in the world. The plant is located in the eastern part of Hungary in the country’s second largest city, Debrecen. The facility will consist of our production lines from Denmark as well as added capacity with new lines. This will be Europe’s largest and most modern microwave popcorn production facility. With this approach, we are ready to face the future with a new factory and a strong focus on continuing to produce the absolute highest quality microwave popcorn.
