In the limited free time we have for watching films, we tend to focus primarily on new releases. However, there are some movies that we’ve seen countless times, yet they still manage to tempt us to watch them again and again. James Cameron, the director of massive box-office hits and revolutionary technological innovations, delivered one of the greatest achievements of his career with Terminator 2. To celebrate its 35th anniversary, this iconic sci-fi action film is returning to cinemas, and we’d like to encourage you all to watch Judgement Day, whether in cinemas or via streaming services.
It’s hard to imagine that anyone would need a recap of the plot of T2, but, as is our usual practice, we’ll go ahead and summarize it. In the not-too-distant future, machines equipped with artificial intelligence are at war with humans. Since Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton) – the mother of the future leader of the Resistance, whom we met in the first part – could not be eliminated by a cyborg sent back from the future via time travel, this time they are targeting her son, John. Skynet, however, does not expect that a protector will also return to safeguard the boy.
Although Terminator 2 is an undisputed classic, in our view there is plenty to argue about. The story is interesting, but not particularly full of twists and turns. Essentially, it is a film peppered with chase scenes and shoot-outs. The acting is average, just about up to scratch. However, thanks to the film’s relentless pace and the brilliance of its visual effects, it’s an incredibly exciting, non-stop thrill from start to finish. What’s more, in today’s AI craze, its theme is more relevant than ever.
If, rather than seeking out the latest releases, you’re looking for a movie that’s guaranteed not to disappoint, you can’t go wrong with Terminator 2. It has everything you could want in a perfect popcorn film: stunning visuals, a gripping plot and unforgettable scenes. It has stood the test of time, even three decades on. If you can, don’t miss it at the cinema, but it’s also a fantastic experience to watch on your TV.
