Most successful franchises inevitably end up with a sequel, prequel, or some other spin-off once the original series has concluded. This isn’t the first time we’ve written about the popularity of spin-offs, and Stranger Things is further proof that this phenomenon is practically an everyday occurrence in the world of TV series. The new animated series, titled Tales from ’85, serves as a sort of supplement while aiming to target a younger audience.
The story takes place chronologically between the second and third seasons. While watching the original series, we didn’t feel like there were any gaps or that the events were hard to follow, but if anyone still has questions about the continuity of the story, they’ll get their answers now. The team also gains a new member, Nikki, who looks on in amazement at what’s happening in Hawkins. But she’ll have to learn fast alongside the guys.
The animated format suits Stranger things exceptionally well. While the graphic quality isn’t particularly outstanding, the color palette is spot-on. The music that plays between scenes has also been curated with great taste. Overall, it captures the familiar Stranger Things vibe, which is primarily defined by the dynamics between the characters and the retro style of the 80s. It’s a shame that the story itself isn’t particularly interesting this time around.
Fans of this universe are sure to enjoy this latest installment. That said, we think it would have been better if the creators had waited a little longer to release it. A debut around Halloween would have given the series a chance to “rest,” and viewers might have received it with greater interest. We wouldn’t call it a must-see, but it provides suitable material for relaxing at home.

Have you been looking forward to the new Stranger Things spin-off? What do you think of it? We’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments. At the end of the month, we’ll be back with another streaming series that sounds very promising right from the concept. Until then, watch plenty of movies and TV shows, and follow us on our social media pages. And if you’re craving a truly delicious snack for your movie night at home, POPZ popcorn is the best choice.
